Common questions

Straight answers, before you have to ask.

If your question isn’t here, it’s a good use of the consultation call — or email me and I’ll answer it directly.

How can I verify that you are licensed?

Look me up directly on the New York State Education Department register — search license number 024548 under profession code 068 (Psychology), or use the verification link in the footer, which opens my record. You will see the address of record listed as New Orleans; that is my address on file with the state. I am licensed in New York and see clients located anywhere in New York State.

Can I see you online anywhere in New York State?

Yes — anywhere in New York State, not only New York City. What matters is where you are physically located at the time of the session. Sessions are 45 minutes and usually weekly.

Do you take insurance?

No. I am a private-pay psychologist and do not bill insurance directly. Most clients with out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits are reimbursed by their plan. I provide a monthly superbill — an itemized receipt formatted for insurance — that you submit for reimbursement, and a Good Faith Estimate before care begins.

What is a superbill, exactly?

An itemized receipt formatted for insurance. I send one monthly; you submit it to your plan, and they reimburse a percentage of their allowed amount once your out-of-network deductible is met.

How much does therapy cost?

Sessions are 45 minutes and billed privately. A limited number of sliding-scale spots are reserved for clients with demonstrated financial need. If cost is the barrier between you and treatment, say so on the free consultation call.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

All sessions are virtual and available to anyone physically located in New York State at the time of the appointment, in English or Spanish.

What ages do you work with?

Children and adolescents ages 5 to 17, adults of all ages, couples, and families. Work with a child always includes the parents alongside them.

Do you offer therapy in Spanish?

Yes. I provide therapy and assessment in Spanish. My doctoral training at Teachers College, Columbia University included a concentration in Bilingual Latinx Mental Health.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ and gender-expansive clients?

Yes. It is a long-standing area of training and published research for me — coming out, transition, family rupture, relationships, and the accumulated cost of vigilance. Affirming care is the baseline here, not a separate service line.

Do you prescribe medication?

No — psychologists do not prescribe in New York. I do hold a Master of Science in Clinical Psychopharmacology, so I can help you make sense of what you have been prescribed and work directly with your prescriber.

What kind of therapy do you practice?

Primarily relational and psychodynamic psychotherapy, integrated with cognitive-behavioral, dialectical-behavioral, and trauma-focused methods when those are the right tool. I tell you the reasoning behind the approach I am using.

Can you write a psychological affidavit for an asylum case?

Yes. I conduct psychological evaluations and prepare affidavits supporting asylum applications, training I completed at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture. Evaluations can be conducted in Spanish.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

Every consultation request is reviewed personally and answered by email within two business days. The consultation itself is 15 minutes and free, with no obligation on either side.

How do I know whether we are a good fit?

That is what the free consultation is for. Fit predicts outcome more strongly than method does. If I am not the right person, I will say so and point you toward someone who is.

You can confirm my licence yourself: licence #024548 on the NYSED register · profession code 068 (Psychology).
