Specialties

What I treat.

People rarely arrive with one clean problem. The consultation exists so we can talk about the actual situation rather than which box it belongs in.

Trauma and PTSD

Single-incident, childhood, and complex trauma. Trained in the PTSD track at the Manhattan VA and at the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture.

Anxiety and depression

The persistent kind that has become part of how you move through a day, and the acute kind that arrived with something specific.

Grief and loss

Death, and the losses that don’t come with a funeral: a relationship, a country, a version of your life you had planned on. Grief doesn’t keep a schedule, and it isn’t a problem to fix. We make room for it at the pace it actually moves.

Learning differences, ADHD & executive functioning

Ten years of specialized work with people whose brains are capable and whose systems keep failing them. Published research in this area.

LGBTQIA+ and gender-expansive clients

Coming out, transition, family rupture, relationships, and the accumulated cost of vigilance. Affirming as a baseline, not a service line. I am a gay man myself — for some people that matters, for others it does not, and both are good reasons to choose a therapist.

Identity, discrimination & minority stress

The mental health impact of racism, heterosexism, xenophobia, and structural adversity — the subject of most of my published research.

Immigration, displacement & asylum

Work with immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers, including psychological affidavits supporting asylum applications. In English or Spanish.

Relationships and family

Couples and family work — including mentalization-based approaches that build the capacity to read your own mind and the other person's — and the individual work of figuring out why the same thing keeps happening with different people.

Shame and self-criticism

The internal voice that got installed early, and what it takes to stop treating it as the truth.

Career counseling

Career decisions, stalled trajectories, and work that no longer fits who you’ve become. Vocational psychology is a core part of my training as a counseling psychologist, and career questions are rarely only about work.

School refusal and academic collapse

When a capable student stops going, stops turning things in, or melts down every morning — and the plan the school wrote is not working.

Parenting a struggling child

Support for the parents alongside the child's treatment, including how to hold limits without turning the house into a courtroom.
